Video Conference 1.1

Video works by Urich Lau.  Showcase launch 09th January Friday – 08th February Sunday, Blackmarket operation hours.

 A video work preceeded by the first version Video Conference: Exposition 1.0 shown in 2008, explores the relationship between human, and electronical and mechanical visual capabilities and capacities. Through the interplay of equipments, gadgets and live feed to create pulses of imageries that are unique from the combination of singular signals (analogue) and digital video, the work seeks to examine the crux of visual manipulation as a reaction on the bombardment of consumeristic technology.

Urich Lau – is a Singaporean visual artist, born 1975. He works with photography, print, video art and installation art. He has exhibited in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, China, Australia, Serbia and USA. Being avid in video art, he has curated and organized projects on the art form –Displacement Project: Bandung-Singapore 2006 with Singaporean and Indonesian artists in 2006; Episode5: 12-Hour Performance, Sound and Video Festival, organized for The Artists Village (Singapore) with South-east Asian and European artists in 2006; Videology with Singaporean artists, presented by the Substation in 2008; OPEN – Autumn Party 08, in conjunction with The Artists Village: 20 Years at Singapore Art Museum 2008. He holds a Master of Fine Art degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and works as a part-time art lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts and National Institute of Education in Singapore

Yuzuru Maeda – is active as a singer across Asia. Her music includes jazz, Hindustani classical, Carnatic, Hindi film songs, Japanese music and experimental music. She is also a classical violinist and an Arabic percussionist. She has explored different types of music in the world as she travels through Africa, Europe, Asia and North America. She has learned world music from various teachers in India, Morocco and Holland. She also studied record collections from various record collectors in North America and Holland. She has especially studied 1960’s and 1970’s rock records and its culture from the original generations.  Later she explored experimental music in Singapore and underground music in Japan. Currently Yuzuru is undertaking her B.A. in music at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore.
