Parisian company Etat Libre d’Orange is the wild-child and controversial of Parisian perfumes, clearly evident in the names of some of their fragrances. Think: Sécrétions Magnifiques (Magnificent Secretions) – its smell is supposed to send one into ‘the pinnacle of sensual pleasure’ and Jasmine & Cigarettes – inspired by the likes of Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich who seduced men with their iconic Hollywood stare while smoking a cigarette and oozing female sensuality. Creating head-turning unisex fragrances and living by the slogan “Perfume is dead – long live perfume!”, their perfumes are highly refined, yet edgy and fearless by taking the art of perfumery and turning it into something spicy and invigorating that re-awakens the stimulus through tempting scents and an attitude.
This is what we’d call spray-on pleasure.
Etat Libre d’Orange fragrances are spotted in Cindy Gallop’s new york pad featured in TheSelby.com.
Jasmin et Cigarette is by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, features notes of jasmine absolute, tobacco, hay, apricot, tonka bean, tumeric, cedar and musk. Scarlett Johansson is said to favour Jasmin et Cigarette as her perfume of choice.
Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don’t Swallowis by Antoine Maisondieu, features jasmine, aldehydes, lily of the valley, orange blossom, amber solar accord, patchouli, cacao and marshmallow.
Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection is the line’s first “celebrity fragrance”, and was created for Spanish actress Rossy de Palma (Women on the verge). The scent was developed by perfumers Antoine Lie and Antoine Maisondieu and centers on de Palma’s favorite flower, rose; the notes include ginger, black pepper, bergamot, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, benzoin, incense, cacao and patchouli.
With the likes of debonair George Clooney, Je Suis Un Homme, by Antoine Lie, features bergamot, orange bigarade, citron, myrtle, cinnamon, clove, cognac accord, leather, patchouli and animalic notes.
Tom of Finland also by Antoine Lie, has notes of crumpled leaf, suede, metal, pepperwood, iris, tonka, vetiver, and musks. The perfumer wants to create a scent that “does not disturb the odor of men.”
Selected Etat Libre d’Orange unisex fragrances are now available at Blackmarket.
