Extending a much celebrated array of collections and projects, this year Nikicio releases its first menswear collection.
Loosely based on the book ‘The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle’ by Haruki Murakami, the collection persistently gives hints on memorable costume references, which is written beautifully and elaborately, yet firm by the author.
To this inspiration, the debut of Nikicio Homme becomes a collection that is full of memoirs and adventures a man goes through, however vague and mysterious. All the important articles are included; taking basic items in the form of shorts and jackets, to a deliberately crafted blazer and off-the-wall pantsuits. A few forgotten fabrics are unusually applied, linen to shorts, wool and cotton together on a coat, and distressed faux-leather as a complete suit. This echoes the complicated persona of a male individual, and color blocking affirms intellectual capacity to attract others.
Titled “Eluded”, meaning ‘having escaped’, the overall collection is also based on a journey, otherwise known to the fashion fad as travel. Hence sober colors are used, with touches of softness (par example, baby silk is used on linings), without dismissing Nikicio’s signature shapes and timeless structure. Where the journey ends, only the wearer knows.
After years of sharing interests and experiences, as well as unexpected adventures, Nina Nikicio, Creative Director of Nikicio herself, joins hands with a long-term friend Abraham Dewanggana, to create and then conceive this collection, a project long awaited. Together they hone to introduce a seemingly disobeyed image of quality and personified menswear today and hopefully onwards.
Nikicio Homme is now available at Blackmarket.
