EAST ASIAN MISFITS S/S 2010

Doing away with overt historical references, this collection is more an embodiment of the modern asian spirit than a nostalgic revival of tradition. The choice of a neutral palette is deliberately ironic. What results are truly modern pieces that consolidate their positions in the wardrobe more as everyday items than festive garbs. Kimono folds are cleverly played up here and Yumumu’s signature lines are evident. The vests offer light layering for styling versatility, their sharp tailoring and stiffened forms complement the body-con silhouette in their emphasis of womanly curves.

Further Japanese influences can be observed in the print of the leggings. The traditional Japanese tie-dye method of Arashi Shibori is explored here, the end product of which is then selectively chosen to attain the asymmetric composition in a piece that is truly unique.

As a whole, the pieces carry a piece of confidence in their distinctiveness, coupled with a touch of sensuality that makes for easy transition from day to evening for the young professional.

Yumumu’s latest Spring/Summer 2010 collection, East Asian Misfits, is now available in Blackmarket.
