ELOHIM’s Fall Winter 2010 collection is inspired by the concept metaphor of POISON IVY:

A lover, a fighter and a femme fatale. A poisonous plant, a Marvel comic character from the Batman series. A metaphor for the modern woman, alluring others and defending herself.

POISON IVY is a walking contradiction and mysterious creature. A woman who inspires delicate romance and deadly reaction, depending on the needs from moment to moment.

The collection exudes romance and danger by exploring the metaphorical and physical attributes of POISON IVY. It showcases a spectrum of colour, material, construction and proportion to express the properties of the character.

The Fall/Winter 2010 women’s collection is now available at Blackmarket.

‘A FALL TO EARTH’ BY ESTELLE DÉVÉ A/W 2010

“A Fall to Earth”, abides to the same ballad previously sung by Lunar Mare. Yet, Melbourne-based Estelle Dévé’s third collection subscribes to a different kind of space opera; a retro-celestial archetype imagined by science fiction visionaries of Seventies music and film.

Reminiscent of pieces fallen from space shuttles disengaging from the heavens, “A Fall to Earth” blends leather, crystallized water and silver-plated silver to compose a penetrating, chilly architecture. This haunting sanctuary of crystal and rock formations echoes the exotics of a lonely Arctic tundra- but secretly alludes to a distant, intergalactic odyssey.

Dévé’s trademark method of dramatics is now doused with ethereal tranquility. Bangles are digitally bounded with formations previously reserved for reefs of stone. The simplistic shapes of ID bracelets and necklaces are accented with cut crystal details, while otherworldly, luminous structures adorn the ears like a Delphic stalactite. Despite the more terrestrial nature of metals and black leather, every piece from “A Fall to Earth” is a miniature voyage to more supernatural hemispheres.

Enigmatic and minimal; glacial yet subliminally romantic. “A Fall to Earth” showcases Dévé’s nonconformist style of colliding popular culture with organic materials, and concluding them with sublime statements of unusual yet exquisite innovation.

Using fine materials and traditional tailoring techniques in the fabrication of their designs, Coupé-Cousu offers a fresh perspective to the discerning man by marrying the best parts of tradition with the inventiveness of fashion. Handpicked Japanese fabrics, mother-of-pearl and shell buttons, and single-needle stitched seams, we know you guys are in good hands.

EAST ASIAN MISFITS S/S 2010

Doing away with overt historical references, this collection is more an embodiment of the modern asian spirit than a nostalgic revival of tradition. The choice of a neutral palette is deliberately ironic. What results are truly modern pieces that consolidate their positions in the wardrobe more as everyday items than festive garbs. Kimono folds are cleverly played up here and Yumumu’s signature lines are evident. The vests offer light layering for styling versatility, their sharp tailoring and stiffened forms complement the body-con silhouette in their emphasis of womanly curves.

Further Japanese influences can be observed in the print of the leggings. The traditional Japanese tie-dye method of Arashi Shibori is explored here, the end product of which is then selectively chosen to attain the asymmetric composition in a piece that is truly unique.

As a whole, the pieces carry a piece of confidence in their distinctiveness, coupled with a touch of sensuality that makes for easy transition from day to evening for the young professional.

Yumumu’s latest Spring/Summer 2010 collection, East Asian Misfits, is now available in Blackmarket.

Parisian company Etat Libre d’Orange is the wild-child and controversial of Parisian perfumes, clearly evident in the names of some of their fragrances. Think: Sécrétions Magnifiques (Magnificent Secretions) – its smell is supposed to send one into ‘the pinnacle of sensual pleasure’ and Jasmine & Cigarettes – inspired by the likes of Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich who seduced men with their iconic Hollywood stare while smoking a cigarette and oozing female sensuality. Creating head-turning unisex fragrances and living by the slogan “Perfume is dead – long live perfume!”, their perfumes are highly refined, yet edgy and fearless by taking the art of perfumery and turning it into something spicy and invigorating that re-awakens the stimulus through tempting scents and an attitude.

This is what we’d call spray-on pleasure.

Etat Libre d’Orange fragrances are spotted in Cindy Gallop’s new york pad featured in TheSelby.com.

Jasmin et Cigarette is by perfumer Antoine Maisondieu, features notes of jasmine absolute, tobacco, hay, apricot, tonka bean, tumeric, cedar and musk. Scarlett Johansson is said to favour Jasmin et Cigarette as her perfume of choice.

Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don’t Swallowis by Antoine Maisondieu, features jasmine, aldehydes, lily of the valley, orange blossom, amber solar accord, patchouli, cacao and marshmallow.

Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection is the line’s first “celebrity fragrance”, and was created for Spanish actress Rossy de Palma (Women on the verge). The scent was developed by perfumers Antoine Lie and Antoine Maisondieu and centers on de Palma’s favorite flower, rose; the notes include ginger, black pepper, bergamot, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, benzoin, incense, cacao and patchouli.

With the likes of debonair George Clooney, Je Suis Un Homme, by Antoine Lie, features bergamot, orange bigarade, citron, myrtle, cinnamon, clove, cognac accord, leather, patchouli and animalic notes.

Tom of Finland also by Antoine Lie, has notes of crumpled leaf, suede, metal, pepperwood, iris, tonka, vetiver, and musks. The perfumer wants to create a scent that “does not disturb the odor of men.”

Selected Etat Libre d’Orange unisex fragrances are now available at Blackmarket.

Slow Boat to China is an old poker idiom popularised by Frank Loesser who turned it into a romantic song about a crooner’s intention to embark on a slow journey so that more time could be spent with the one being fancied.

Similarly with 72Smalldive’s cruise collection, they’ve got their designers & artisans on a slow boat, in hope of creating a classic line that will continue to grow season after season. On this slow boat, oblivious of time constraints, faltering fads, and worldly wants, the team created an elegant and versatile line of tote bags. This is their endeavour to affirm their commitment to create meaningful, humane, and longlasting products so that they may be passed down from generation to generation.
Welcome on board!
